Colorado Brazil Fest 2016: Brazil Comes To Boulder
Boulder, CO (June 26, 2016)
Boulder Samba School is excited to announce the fifth annual Colorado Brazil Fest (CBF), a four-day celebration of Brazilian music, dance, and culture in Boulder, Colorado. The event will take place August 11th-14th at local theaters and venues and promises to excite, educate, and entertain.
Colorado’s Brazilian music scene has grown dramatically in recent years. In the last 5 years, Boulder Samba School and local bands Ginga, Dexter Payne Quartet, Sambadende, and Chegando Lá have performed for a combined audience of 30,000+ at events such as the internationally renowned Bolder Boulder, Festival of Lights Parade, and Denver Pride Parade. Attendance of CBF 2016 is likely to eclipse the mark of 1,800 established in previous years.
Colorado Brazil Fest is the only festival of its kind in the Front Range area, and brings together a diverse group of music and dance enthusiasts who share a passion for Brazilian culture. The festival showcases samba as well as choro, forró, and Afro-Brazilian styles of music and dance. Attendees range from teenagers to retirees, and come from diverse professional, educational, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds.
The headline show at Boulder Theater for this year’s CBF features Rio’s favorite samba and forró singer-songwriter Moyseis Marques (http://www.moyseismarques.com.br). Originally from Minas Gerais, he has made his career in Rio’s bohemian “Lapa” neighborhood, having founded 3 bands, including Forró na Contramão, Casuarina, and Tempero Carioca. He has also recorded 4 solo albums in samba and MPB styles, with mostly original compositions.
Additional acclaimed Brazilian guest artists includes virtuosic instrumental group Choro das 3 (São Paulo), samba master Ronaldo Andrade (São Paulo), and dancer/choreographer Rodson Santos (Bahia).
Performances will also include several acts from the front range, including Colorado’s best samba band Ginga, Boulder Samba School’s high-energy percussion ensemble Bateria Alegria, and local dance groups. Featured shows will be hosted at the Boulder Theater, First United Methodist Church, and Boulder Beer’s Pub.
